Sesame Street Introduces Autistic Character, Resources

SESAME STREET INTRODUCES CHARACTER, VIDEOS AND RESOURCES FOR AUTISM

On October 21st, Sesame Street introduced “Julia,” its first character with autism, as part of the initiative, “Sesame Street and Autism – See Amazing in All Children.”  Sesame Street created lots of wonderful resources for its website.

There are ten videos, including the music video, “The Amazing Song.” http://autism.sesamestreet.org/videos/amazing-song/  You will find a storybook, “We’re Amazing 1, 2, 3!”  http://autism.sesamestreet.org/storybook-we-are-amazing/  and eight Daily Routine Cards that use Sesame Street characters to teach children the steps of everyday activities such as teeth-brushing and bedtime routines.

For decades, Sesame Street has shown its commitment to including all children – including those with disabilities – on its show.  We are excited that Sesame is now featuring autistic children to reinforce the message that “We all are amazing each in our own way.”
